When a stubborn double chin persists no matter what, a patient can turn to Kybella, a prescription drug injected in the moderate to severe fat under the chin. Known as nonsurgical chin liposuction, Dr. Chan recommends this for patients who are looking for a noninvasive option. The main ingredient of Kybella is deoxycholic acid, a molecule found naturally in the body, which helps to break down and destroy fat cells. Since the cells are destroyed, fat can no longer be stored in them. Most patients need 2-4 treatments, or in more severe cases, up to 6 treatments.

"Doctor inspected the wound that needed surgical attention and explained what needed to be done. The procedure could be done in the doctor's office/clinic and not in a hospital, if I wished. Then COVID-19 delayed the surgery by 2 months, but they were able to schedule the procedure as soon as it was allowed. Polite and respectful attention from all personnel there. The surgery and recovery went as expected. Proper procedures for eliminating a risk of getting COVID-19 there too. Nice people and professional, high-quality surgery."- J.M. / Google / Jun 19, 2020
"I was trying to allow a severe burn wound of mine that had occurred 6 weeks before I met Dr Chan to heal by secondary intention, but the wound only healed up to a certain point, then stalled. Dr Chan immediately arranged surgery to apply a skin graft after he reviewed photos of my burn. His bedside manner was wonderful! He spent a lot of time explaining treatment option advantages and disadvantages (including non-surgical. I was chicken of having anesthesia.) The graft healed nicely and I was very thankful for his guidance and his excellent surgical skills. Office staff also wonderful. They were very courteous and answered the phone promptly(after a brief robotic directing of the call), and called me back with answers to my questions.I would highly recommend Dr. Chan for anyone needing plastic surgery!"- P. / Healthgrades / Apr 01, 2020
Surgical Neck Liposuction
Kybella is an alternative to surgical neck liposuction for patients who only need fat removed from the area under their chin. If the patient wants fat removed from the rest of the neck, surgical neck liposuction is the best option. The doctor will help every patient determine their best treatment plan after listening to their concerns and goals in the initial consultation.
After cleaning the area, the doctor will inject Kybella into multiple sites under the patient’s chin. Patients can have up to 6 treatment sessions with less than a month in between each session.
Before/After The Procedure
Most patients will begin to see visible results in 2 – 4 treatment sessions. After the treatment, patients may have temporary swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, or redness.
Plan Your Procedure
While it is currently being researched, Kybella is not approved to eliminate fat in any other areas of the body, and a plastic surgeon will only inject Kybella into the area directly below the patient’s chin. The uses of Kybella will hopefully be expanded, but for now, patient can enjoy easily getting rid of their double chin with Kybella.
Before receiving Kybella injections, the doctor will ask about the patient’s current medications and medical conditions during their initial consultation. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding may not get Kybella injections. Kybella is also not available for anyone under the age of 18.
How It Works?
Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, is a naturally-occurring molecule that can be by the body to breakdown and destroy fat. Once destroyed, these fat cells cannot return.
